Steven (Steve) Siemieniuk is an exploration geologist based in Murillo, near Thunder Bay, Ontario, with 19 years of exploration across Northwestern Ontario, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut: project generation and staking, helicopter-supported and fly-in field programs, deep diamond drilling, program management and NI 43-101 reporting. President and Principal Geologist of Exploration Insider Ltd., still taking on consulting, compilation and cartography work and building web GIS and machine learning tools for explorers.

Field geology, project generation and geospatial software under one roof.

Steven Siemieniuk is an exploration geologist and Professional Geoscientist (PGO No. 2288) based near Thunder Bay. He spent years prospecting with his grandfather, Dan Calvert, before studying geology, and has since worked across the full exploration cycle in Northwestern Ontario, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, including Arctic diamond and Cu-Ni-PGE programs. That experience covers project generation and claim staking, remote and helicopter-supported field programs, deep diamond drilling, program management, Ontario assessment reporting and NI 43-101 technical reporting.

He generated and staked projects later optioned or acquired by TSX Venture and ASX-listed explorers, managed deep drilling for Xstrata Zinc and Glencore at Sturgeon Lake, served as an independent Qualified Person for a TSX Venture issuer, and was project geologist behind Champion Bear Resources' maiden 107,100 oz inferred gold resource at Plomp Farm. His graduate research on GIS-based prospectivity mapping, including a month of study at the University of Western Australia, now drives Exploration Insider's web GIS, remote sensing and machine learning work.

A lot of Steven's work starts before a company is involved: reading the geology against the claim map, staking open ground, and packaging it for option to public explorers. Several of those projects are still being advanced today.

Savant Lake Gold Project

Savant Lake-Sturgeon Lake greenstone belt, about 250 km northwest of Thunder Bay. Staked in 2012 by a small vendor group that included Steven, as a target for iron formation-hosted and shear-hosted gold, then carried through prospecting, airborne geophysics, target ranking and drill planning. It has since been optioned or acquired by five public companies and is now a district-scale land position of about 242 km² and the lead exploration priority of Lightning Resource Corp.

Sturgeon Lake VMS Project

Mattabi camp, Sturgeon Lake greenstone belt. After years of field and drilling work in the camp for Xstrata Zinc and Glencore, Steven staked and optioned ground beside the camp to ASX-listed Lawson Gold, which became Odin Metals, worked with Glencore toward a joint venture on its Sturgeon Lake properties, and was appointed Odin's Canadian Exploration Manager.

Finding bedrock through the forest

Ontario's open single photon LiDAR, Sentinel-1 radar, Sentinel-2 and ASTER optical archives fused with scikit-learn, PyTorch and weights-of-evidence methods to map likely outcrop across a glaciated Canadian Shield property. The client found close agreement with 1976 Ontario Geological Survey bedrock mapping.
